Frequently Asked Questions
What happens at my first appointment?
Your therapist will meet you in reception and take you to their treatment room. If you are seeing an osteopath you will be asked to fill in a registration form.
In all of our therapies we need to find out why you have come to us for help so a certain amount of time will be taken up with discussing your reasons for consulting us. Do feel free to ask questions throughout your session. Your practitioner will devise a treatment plan specific to your needs and discuss this with you.
Each therapy has its own consultation process. You are welcome to bring a chaperone if you would like one.
How long will it take?
Most first sessions are 1 hour long, however there are different appointment lengths for Osteopathy and Homeopathy. Please ask if you are not told.
Will it hurt?
In the case of Osteopathy, you may have areas of soreness or a technique may feel uncomfortable, but it should not hurt. You may experience some stiffness and soreness after treatment, this may last for a day or two. Cranial osteopathy can also result in a little soreness or a child that may be unsettled for 12 – 24 hours after treatment.
In Acupuncture, most patients only experience a brief sensation of discomfort as the needle is initially places. Many patients experience a pleasant feeling of relaxation and may even fall asleep for the rest of the treatment,
How many sessions will I need?
This all depends on how long you have had the problem and what therapy you are receiving. Your therapist should discuss with you on your first appointment how many sessions they think you may need and explain the most appropriate interval between treatments. They will usually reassess this interval each time you visit based upon the progress that you are making. Sometimes you may only need one session, whilst in some circumstances you may need a course of treatment. All decisions are taken jointly between you and your therapist. Our practitioners work in partnership with their clients and the care that you receive is tailored to your individual needs.
Do I need a referral from my GP for a treatment
You do not need a referral for any treatment at the Clinic. You may wish to tell your GP you are having treatment or you may not; it is up to you.
